The News you all have been waiting for has finally arrived. August 29th, The Fencing Club will be open at the Personal Training Center located at 1575 Pine Ridge Rd.
A few kinks will need to be ironed out by the new owners so I would anticipate some adjustments. The search for a new Full time Coach will continue and the schedule will expand as that position is filled. Beginning and Advanced classes will start on August 30th. If you are in the Intermediate class you will be joining the Advanced class.
For those of you taking Private Lessons refer to the schedule and confirm your time with Scott at (239)784-7785. Now Scott will be traveling on Wednesday next week, so watch for e-mails concerning what times the club will be open. He will return to classes by Sept. 6th. So I would anticipate Beginning and Advanced classes to continue on the 6th. The Friday and Saturday Open Fencing will begin at a later date as the new owners see fit, or have guest instructors come in to do special classes. I am very excited about how this may impact fencing in Naples. The new location will give more visibility to our little club. As it gains attention, and a new coach is bought in, it has the potential to expand to bigger and better program, with a bigger and better location. We all are tightening our belts in these economic times The club may appear to be getting smaller but, this new leaner schedule gives s a base for explosive growth. So watch your e-mails, and stand by the phones, as new things are announced and develop. I wish you all the best and will be seeing you "on the strip".

Dear Friends of Salle de Napoli,
I have been honored to be your Coach and Friend over these past 6 years. As of September 1, 2011 I will be the new Asst. Coach at the University of Pennsylvania. The Athletic Department has created a position for a third coach for the Fencing program there. This is the first time in the 112 year program that they have had a third full time coach. This fulfills a dream that I've had since I stepped in the Fencing Room at Penn. To be honored by the Department, and Coach Ma, in requesting me to coach there is an opportunity I can not allow to pass.
Now, the plan is that Fencing will continue under new ownership in Naples. Over the next 2 weeks there will be announcments concerning a new schedule, class format, and location for the club. I believe the coming changes will continue to grow Fencing in Naples and take the program to a new level. The future plans include a search for a new full time coach, and that Scott, Ray, and Michelle will continue assisting with the club after my departure.
It is very difficult to leave the little club that I started as a favor to a few parents 8 years ago. I have lived and died with every touch my fencers have made or missed. The trips to local, divisional, and National events have been a joy and blessing for me. The lessons and classes that brought us all closer together, honed the skills of my fencers, and honed me as a coach. I would not be where, and what I am, without all of you. As I say farewell, I am Honored, and Humbled, to have been your Coach.
